Second reported Minneapolis homicide of the weekend, 18th of 2018

Shooting on north side follows discovery of man's body in parked car

July 21, 2018 - 7:23 am

One  person is dead after a shooting in north Minneapolis Sunday night.

It is the 18th reported homicide of 2018 in Minnesota's largest city.

Police were called to a report of shots fired near 16th and Morgan around 7 p.m. Sunday. It's there they found a man shot.

He was taken to North Memorial where he later died.

Investigators say a big kickball tournament was taking place at North Commons Park near the shooting, but they do not believe the shooting is related to that event.

There is no ID of the victim or a suspect.

This comes after the body of man was found in a car parked near Lake Nokomis earlier in the weekend

Minneapolis police received a call of shots fired in the area of the 5700 block of 33rd Avenue south at about 2:41 Saturday morning.  That's located not far from Lake Nokomis and a few blocks away from Bossen Field Park.

When officers arrived, the body of a man was found inside a parked car, and police say there is evidence that a handgun was used in the crime.

"Investigators will be working off the preliminary identity of the individual," said the MPD's John Elder. "Tracing back what that person may have been doing in that area. Did they live there? Were they working in the area? Just to really be able to try to ascertain what led up to that person's death."

There are no arrests and the victim is not identified.
