Best Buy has named Corie Barry its new chief executive officer, the first woman to hold that post for the Richfield-based electronics retailer.

Current CEO and board chairman Hubert Joly will become executive chairman of the board after stepping down June 11.

The announcement came Monday.

Barry has been Best Buy's Chief Financial and Strategic Transformation Officer.

"I’m going to continue to lead the board, and I am all in," said Joly "I’m committed to supporting the new team providing advice and support to Corie and her team on strategy, capability building, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, external relationships. I am committed to making sure Best Buy is a force for good and a good corporate citizen. This is a very meaningful leadership role."

Joly and Barry have worked together at Best Buy for seven years.

"Having sat in a multitude of chairs, I have a deep respect for the talent, skills and assets that others throughout the organization bring," said Barry. "It means I often like to reach out to other places to better inform decision-making."
