November 13, 2018 - 6:28 am

Officials at Brainerd International Raceway say everyone there is in shock over the death of the track's owner.

The body of Jed Copham was recovered Monday in the waters off Sanibel Island in southwest Florida.

The discovery came nearly a day after officials were notified of a boater falling overboard near the Sanibel Causeway, a long bridge that connects the island with the Florida coast.

The search on Sunday was suspended after several hours.

The Brainerd International Raceway website posted a message calling Copham the face of the track who spared no expense on making improvements at the facility.

Copham grew up in Forest Lake and began racing in the 1990's.

He bought B-I-R in 2006.

Jed Copham was 46 years old and is survived by his wife of 18 years, and two teenaged children.
