St. Paul Police have arrested three boys in connection with a "rash" of burglaries reported in the Mac-Groveland and Summit-University neighborhoods.

Since the arrests, similar cases have been called in to police, suggesting more suspects are at large.

"We want the community to know what's going on," said St. Paul police spokesman Mike Ernster.

The department is telling residents to be skeptical because these aren't your typical burglars. Officials say they've been going door-to-door between noon and 8 p.m. soliciting donations for a fake basketball program. If no one answers, they walk around the house looking for entry points, then burglarize it.

Officials say to call 911 if they see anything suspicious and to keep doors locked, even if you're in the backyard. They say if you're planning an extended vacation to ask a trusted neighbor to keep their eye on the home or register the home for the House Watch Program.
