Charges won't be filed against two University of Minnesota wrestlers who were accused of criminal sexual conduct, with both released from custody late Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from the Hennepin County attorney's office, prosecutors determined no charges will be brought at this time against Gable Steveson and Dylan Martinez.

The statement went on to say that the investigation into the accusations continues, and they'll review all evidence that comes in over the next 90 days.

Prosecutors had until noon Tuesday to file charges against the student-athletes, who were arrested Saturday night.

An attorney for one of the athletes said he denied doing anything wrong, while an MPD report indicates the victim was sexually penetrated with an object by the suspects.

Earlier, the U of M athletic department said both athletes are suspended.

A report from Minneapolis police indicates the victim was attacked early Saturday morning, and that a friend called 911.

The victim's name was redacted from the report, which noted that the person did seek treatment at a hospital.

"I can tell you first and foremost, he denies any wrongdoing," attorney Christa Groshek, who was hired by Steveson's family, told WCCO television. "He and his family are shocked by any kind of allegation of crimial misconduct. I really caution everyone, including the media, from rushing to judgment."

Steveson is one of the most decorated wrestlers in state history.

He was a four-time state champion at Apple Valley High School before coming to the Gophers, where he completed his freshman season this past winter.

Steveson wrestled at 285 pounds at the U, going 35-2 and gaining national rankings.

His family named him after Dan Gable, the legendary international wrestler who was head coach at Iowa for 30 seasons.

Martinez is from Fresno, California and transferred to the Gophers from Fresno City College.
