Crowds still come despite rain at The Minnesota State Fair

Some people actually prefer the rain.

It was pouring rain with thunder and lighting this morning at the Minnesota State Fair, but people still came out in droves

Some actually preferred in that way.

“Absolutely, why would I not come out today anyway? There’s less people,” said Landy, a woman from Hudson, Wi. “I'm not a crowd person. I’d normally wouldn't’ come to the fair, so keep it small, with rain, good for me.”

The rain has since subsided, but there is a chance for more in the afternoon, with thunderstorms expected around 7 pm.

There are plenty of places to seek shelter, and ponchos are for sale at numerous locations -- though that wasn’t enough to keep Dave from Cottage Grove dry.\

“It’s just keeping off a little bit, otherwise it’s dripping down to the pants,” he told WCCO Radio.

The fair has been busy so far.  Yesterday, Park-n-ride lots were filled well before noon and the crowds kept coming.

Today is Governor’s Fire Prevention Day. On the grandstand is Sugarland.
