A train traveling north on Metro Transit’s blue line struck and killed bicyclist near Hiawatha Ave and 42nd Street South in Minneapolis Tuesday evening.

It happened around 6:45 PM. Minneapolis and Metro Transit Police stopped train traffic in both directions as they investigated and brought in replacement buses for passengers.

“The arms were down at the intersection and the bells were going off, warning of an oncoming train,” said Metro Transit spokesperson Howie Padilla.

Padilla says the trains are equipped with cameras and they will know soon what took place moments before the accident.

Police have not released the identity of the man. Padilla did say he believes he was from Minneapolis.
