Stay close to home.

That's the message from the Minnesota DNR as the fishing opener is just a couple of days away now.  The agency issued recommendations for fishing during the COVID-19 pandemic today, which includes avoiding overnight fishing trips.  DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen also says anglers should bring all they need from home, so they don't have to stop anywhere other than the fishing spot.

The DNR says anglers should be able to get to their destination and back on one tank of gas, and that all occupants in the same boat should all be members of the same household.  While cabin owners do have a legal right to go to their properties, that kind of travel is not advised during the Stay at Home order.   Even with those restrictions in place, it appears Minnesotans are ready to fish.  The DNR says there has been a 40% increase in fishing license sales from this same point a year ago.
