Minnesota State Patrol continues searching for the driver of a Chevy Trailblazer who lost control of the SUV on Sunday afternoon killing one passenger.

Troopers say the driver abandoned the car after the crash leaving one passenger dead and another seriously injured.

Dispatchers received calls about the crash Sunday afternoon at 2:16 PM. It happened on southbound Interstate 94 near 4th Street North in Minneapolis.

A report from State Patrol says Kimel Sykes, 57, of Minneapolis, died in the crash and paramedics took David Bryant, 37, of Minneapolis to Hennepin County Medical Center with “life-threatening” injuries. The report also said crash investigators believe Sykes was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred.

The report also says the driver of the Trailblazer was exiting southbound I-94 at 4th Street when it “veered off of the roadway to the right, for an unknown reason.”

Now, troopers are trying to track down the driver who fled the scene.

“We are following up on good leads,” said Lt. Tiffani Nielson with State Patrol.
