Did you get to an apple orchard last week?  I figure you have another month, two if you’re lucky.  What are you going to do with your apples once you pick them and make a bunch of pie? Applesauce of course!  How? Like this!

Extremely basic apple sauce with lemon zest!
My favorite apple sauce has a little fresh lemon zest in it, I like it for body and so it doesn’t taste too one-note. This Martha Stewart recipe has cloves and nutmeg too—very Christmassy, and makes the house smell fantastic.

Slow Cooker Applesauce
Is this the easiest applesauce in the world? I think yes. They used to make it in my son’s fourth grade class every Friday, when every kid would bring in one apple to peel. All you need is a little water, a bunch of apples, you’re on the road to applesauce!

Applesauce bundt cake
What are you going to do with all your applesauce? Make a bundt cake! Someone the other day at a party did not believe I have six bundt pans. I assure you, I do. They’re important!

Betty Crocker’s Chunky Gingered Applesauce
My favorite spiced applesauce has crystallized ginger in it, that’s ginger cooked in sugar-syrup. It has a very different flavor than fresh ginger, or dried ginger. Rounder tasting. More festive!

Apple butter
I did not forget apple butter! I know there are some of you who find applesauce too mild, and need your apple butter. Here’s how you do it: Roast your apples, pass them through a food-mill, spread on buttered toast, celebrate the fact that you won this game called life.
