Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in Eyota, Minnesota for allegedly killing his five-year-old brother. The teen is being held at Dakota County Juvenile Center on probable cause second-degree murder.

When authorities arrived at the home on the 300 block of 2nd Street SW in Eyota, Minnesota around 4:35 p.m. Monday they found the boy in an upstairs bedroom unconscious. He was taken to a St. Mary’s hospital where he was pronounced dead at  6 p.m. The cause of death is currently being called asphyxiation.

The teen is the oldest of six children who were home when the incident occurred. The mother had stepped out for only a brief time and when she returned she found her son unconscious. She was the one to call 9-1-1.

Olmsted County Sheriff's Investigative Sergeant James Schueller said they will not be releasing the teen's motives at this point, but he is scheduled to have a court appearance tomorrow. The names of both boys have yet to be announced.
