Funeral services are Tuesday morning in Lakeville for the medical helicopter pilot killed when the craft went down near Brainerd last month.

Tim McDonald was a pilot for North Memorial Hospital for four years after serving in the US Army.

In a proclimation, Governor Walz has ordered flags at state buildings to fly at half-staff to honor McDonald, 44.

  • "Pilot McDonald was an outstanding pilot who was respected and admired by his colleagues and served the public with dignity and pride. The State of Minnesota recognizes Pilot Tim McDonald for his dedicated services to, and sacrifice for, his fellow citizens with its deepest gratitude, and all thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and entire community."

Registered nurse Deb Schott of Lester Prairie also died in the crash, and another crewmember managed to survive.

There were no patients on board the helicopter when it crashed during foggy conditions in Brainerd on June 28th.
