Hamilton fans were discouraged to camp out overnight for tickets to the show when it comes to Minneapolis in August.

That didn't stop some 200 die-hards from showing up late Wednesday night, long before the ticket kiosks open at 10 Thursday morning.

"When the wife says go get tickets, you go get tickets," said Greg Burke of Hopkins, who was sitting in a blue canvas chair wearing an Iowa Hawkeyes cap as dawn was breaking over the State Theatre on Hennepin Avenue.

He and three of his friends had been there since 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"I'm dying to see it, and I figured this was a lot better chance than trying to get through on-line," he said. "Better than being out here in January, that's for sure."

Burke said it was worth it.

"'Cause I'm guaranteed tickets."

The line formed southward on Hennepin Avenue all the way to Ninth Street.

"We felt justified in coming out here and lining up when we saw other people here," said  Missy Chen of Eagan. "We're like, 'okay, we're not as crazy as we thought we were."

There is a four-ticket limit for buyers.

The State Theatre is purchase point for tickets to Hamilton, which will be performed at the Orpheum from August 29 through October 7.

Tickets are also available through Ticketmaster, but only to those who verified their information last week. It's an effort to stop bots and ticket brokers.

The 100,000 or so tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
