Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib will speak Monday afternoon at the State Capitol in St. Paul about their recent travel bans to Israel.

The congresswomen were banned last week due to their support of a boycott over that nation's treatment of Palestinians. Their event will include a number of others banned from traveling to the country.

Rep. Tom Emmer spoke with WCCO's John Hines about their comments.

"I think our colleague from Minneapolis should begin to think about the consequences of some these statements," Emmer said.

Emmer went on to say how the relationship with Israel is one of the most important for the United States.

"The idea that we would try to chip away at that, or try to rewrite history is a bad idea," he said. "I'm a big supporter of the America/Israeli relatinoship."

Omar and Tlaib's event in St. Paul is expected to begin Monday at 3 p.m. You can here Tom Emmer's full interview below.
