Lois Riess arraigned for first-degree murder

Blooming Prairie woman was not in court for hearing

June 11, 2018 - 6:11 am

Lois Riess, the Blooming Prairie woman accused of killing her husband and a Fort Myers woman before being hunted down after being on the run for a month, was arraigned in Florida Monday morning for first-degree murder.

The 56-year-old Riess did not appear in the courtroom for the hearing.

She has been in custody since her arrest in Texas in April.

Riess was indicted by a grand jury in Florida last week for the shooting death of Pamela Hutchison.  It's believed Riess killed the woman to assume her identity.

The charge filed against Riess of first-degree murder with a firearm carries a mandatory life sentence in prison.

Riess was also indicted by the grand jury on charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft and criminal use of personal identification information of a deceased individual.

She has pleaded not guilty to killing Hutchinson, and has yet to face charges in Minnesota, where her husband was found shot to death in their home in Blooming Prairie in March.

Riess' next court date in Lee County is July 11 for case management.
