Brooklyn Center Police are charging a Minneapolis man with public nuisance and disorderly conduct charges after he allegedly rearranged words on an Arby's restaurant sign with racial and sexist slurs.

It was 7:10 AM on September 1, when a Brooklyn Center Police Officer noticed the offensive message reading “NOW HIRING N****** AND WHORES”. The officer quickly removed the message and notified the business that hadn’t opened yet.

The restaurant located at 5444 Brooklyn Center Blvd gets a long traffic according to Police Commander Richard Gabler.

“The case was assigned to one of our investigators earlier this week,” said Gabler. “Our investigator was looking through various Facebook and social media posts and found an individual who had made one of the first posts regarding the sign.”

The individual identified as Usindini Colling-Harper, 19, of Minneapolis admitted to police he changed the lettering.

“He was apologetic and didn’t mean to cause the harm that it did,” said Gabler. “A lot of people saw it and were offended.”

Colling-Harper has no ties to the Brooklyn Center Arby’s.
