Police shot and killed a man in the east metro overnight.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, officers from the Stillwater, Bayport and Oak Park Heights police departments responded to a suicidal man in the 1200 block of 4th Street South at about 1 a.m.

"Officers made contact with the male who was armed with a knife," Stillwater Police Chief John Gannaway told WCCO-TV at the scene. "During the encounter, one officer discharged their firearm. One officer discharged their taser. The male was transported to Lakeview Hospital and later pronounced deceased."

Body cameras and squad car cameras were "utilized," during the shooting, according to the sheriff's office. The BCA will take over the investigation.

This is the third fatal police shooting in the Twin Cities in the last two weeks. A man was killed in Shakopee and a suicidal man was fatally shot in north Minneapolis on Nov. 9.

The officers' identities have not been released and they are currently on standard administrative leave.
