Police in Maplewood, Minnesota are asking for the public’s help identifying a man they believe stole a Salvation Army Red Kettle from the counter of a Pizza Ranch.

Employees at the restaurant located at 1845 East County Rd. D near the Maplewood Mall said a couple entered the restaurant on Sunday to dine, with the woman asking if she could purchase a kids meal.

"The woman explaining that the reason she wanted the kids buffet is she had gastric bypass surgery and didn't need essentially adult quantities of food," said Commander Dave Kvam with Maplewood Police.

Kvam said the couple got angry and the man was later seen at 8:20 p.m. on surveillance video taking the Red Kettle off the counter.

"It apparently shows him walking in; walking right to the front counter; looks around. Takes the bucket then exits the store," said Kvam.

At this point, the man is facing theft charges.

Anyone with information on the man’s identify is asked to call Maplewood Police at (651) 249-2600 or (651) 767-0640.
