The Twins say they are piecing together reports of the early Sunday morning confrontation in the Dominican Republic involving Miguel Sano.

Reports indicate Sano is meeting today with authorities after a police officer suffered a broken leg in the incident.

Sano reportedly was driving a vehicle without license plates and he did not have the proper identification after he left a night club, and ran over the officer's foot.

Here is the official statement from the Twins:

The Minnesota Twins have been made aware of a situation involving Miguel Sano recently in the Dominican Republic.  The facts of the incident are not completely available right now but the club is in the process of gathering as much information as possible. We will have no further comment at this time.

After playing in the 2017 All-Star Game, Sano, 25, has been battling injuries and continued weight issues.

Last season he was demoted to the low minor leagues, and hit just .199 and struck out 115 times in 71 games for the Twins.

Last December, Sano was accused of sexually assaulting a female photographer, but was not charged or disciplined following an investigation.
