Minneapolis police investigators are scouring the scene of an early-morning shooting on the 1400 block of Washington Ave. South, not far from the west bank of the University of Minnesota campus.

Multiple shots were fired there and a person who was wounded was taken by someone at the scene to the hospital, where the victim died.

"Our crime lab will work on processing the evidence," said the MPD's John Elder. "We will be digging into the background of the individual, and see what may have led up to (the shooting)."

There are no arrests and police say there may have been other people hit by gunfire.

This is the second reported death this week near the U-of-M campus. A man died from injuries following a fight near TCF Bank Stadium on Sunday night, and a possible suspect is cooperating with authorities.

Police say the two incidents are not connected.
