A 49-year-old teacher's aide in Minneapolis is in critical condition after being attacked by a student at a school for children with behavioral and emotional issues. Mohammed Dukuly suffered significant injuries during the Tuesday attack and is in intensive care at Hennepin County Medical Center.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says surveillance video shows Cory David Burfield, 18, of St. Paul grabbing Dukuly's belt, where he had keys to the building. They say Dukuly attempted to push Burfield away, that's when Burfield grabbed Dukuly's shirt, shoved him into a wall and then the ground. Investigators say Burfield punched Dukuly numerous times in the head and neck.

When emergency personal arrived Dukuly was unresponsive and "life saving measures were necessary" said the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. Dukuly was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Dukuly's uncle, Imam Mohammed Dukuly, says the family wants some answers from the school:

"We want to see what really transpired. We want a full investigation. And we want to know whether the student involved had ever been violent before."

Burfield is being held in the Hennepin County Jail on one count felony first-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault. He's expected to make his first court appearance on Thursday.

The attack happened at the Harrison Education Center, a school for students with severe behavioral or emotional disorders.

It's not the first time an employee was attacked by a student at the school. In 2015 the principal suffered a concussion after being punched by a student.
