The Senate voted to confirm U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh Sunday on a 50-48 vote. Here are some reactions from Minnesota political figures and organizations:

Minnesota GOP chair Jennifer Carnahan:

"This afternoon, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Judge Kavanaugh as our ninth Supreme Court Justice. Judge Kavanaugh has been thoroughly and completely vetted by both the U.S. Senate and the FBI, and both have come to the conclusion that he has been a great judge and deserves to be a Supreme Court Justice."

U.S. Senate nominee Karin Housley:

“The United States is better off because Justice Brett Kavanaugh sits on the Supreme Court. Justice Kavanaugh is an extremely capable jurist who has spent his career dutifully upholding the constitution and the rule of law. I am confident he will continue that legacy on our nation’s highest court.

“Over the past month, we have witnessed a powerful movement that ignited long-overdue, passionate conversations on the harassment and abuse women face every day. Unfortunately, we also witnessed a shameful attempt by far-left politicians to hijack the Senate’s constitutional obligation and exploit the ‘#MeToo Movement’ for partisan gain. We will continue to have these important conversations, but we will not allow mob rule to undermine our rights and freedoms.

“When radical politicians like Tina Smith declare Justice Kavanaugh ‘committed sexual assault’ in the complete absence of due process, it allows anger, fear, and bitterness to become the primary motivation. Such blatant partisanship divides our country. That’s not how we do things in Minnesota – and we might take Tina Smith more seriously if she applied that same standard to her friend and far-left ally Keith Ellison.

“Congratulations, Justice Brett Kavanaugh.”
