July 11, 2019 - 5:11 am

Minnesota United's high-powered offense was in top form again Wednesday, this time in the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup tournament.

The Loons drilled New Mexico 6-1 in front of 12,401 fans at Allianz Field in St. Paul to surge into the tourney's semifinals.

Angelo Rodriguez scored three times in the first half of the dominant win that sets up a match against Portland in the all-levels professional soccer tournament.

Despite the margin of victory, Loons coach Adrian Heath felt the team could have played better.

"I thought at times we were really sloppy. I thought at times we were outstanding. I thought at times some of the combination play was as good as you’ll see," he said.

The team that wins the US Cup gets $300,000.

Jan Gregus, Darwin Quintero, and Miguel Ibarra also scored for the Loons., who have won six matches in a row.

During that streak, Minnesota United has scored 26 goals.

The Loons play their next Major League Soccer match on July 13 against FC Dallas in St. Paul's midway neighborhood.

The site of Minnesota United's US Open Cup semifinal against Porland will be determined in draw on Thursday.

Here are the scores from the tournament quarterfinals:

Atlanta United (MLS) 2, Saint Louis (USLC) 0

Minnesota United (MLS) 6, New Mexico United (USLC) 1

Orlando City (MLS) 1, New York City (MLS) 1, Orlando City wins 5-4 in penalty kicks
