The Irish Fair of Minnesota will miss its 2020 festivities after the event was canceled Thursday morning.

According to a press release, the IFM decided to cancel "in an effort to keep our attendees, staff, entertainers, volunteers, and the greater community safe and secure."

The fair was scheduled to run August 7-9.

“We appreciate the generous support of our sponsors, donors, vendors, volunteers, the City of Saint Paul, the Saint Paul Parks & Recreation team, the entertainers and, of course, our wonderful guests,” said Board Chair Tom Whelan. “Together we have all helped to make the Irish Fair of Minnesota one of the largest and most authentic celebrations of Irish culture and heritage in the country. We look forward to making the 2021 Irish Fair the best yet.”

Organizers say they will continue to teach about Irish culture this year through virtual events and other educational offerings.

The 2021 Irish Fair is slated to run August 13-15 on Harriet Island.
