There are no arrests in St. Paul's latest homicide, which happened early Friday morning in the west 7th Street area of the city.

It is the 27th reported homicide in St. Paul this year, and third in the past week.

Authorities say a husband and wife were riding in a van when they were shot while driving on Davern Street.

After the shooting, the vehicle came to rest in the parkikng lot of an apartment complex called the Communities of River Crossing, located on Davern between Munster and Graham Avenues, about two blocks south of West Seventh Street.

This is not far from the highway 5 bridge over the Mississippi River.

The man died at the scene while his wife is hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the leg, and she is expected to recover.

St. Paul police spokesman Steve Linders said the shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. and does not appear to be random.

"It's frustrating, it's concerning, to say the least," he said. "I can tell you that everybody at the St. Paul police department, from our patrol officers to our investigators to the leadership, we're all 100 percent committed to addressing this problem."
