The Gopher athletics department announced Tuesday that seven student-athletes have tested positive for COVID-19.

The department conducted 170 tests in the month of June, according to a release, which added the players who tested positive were involved in "multiple sports," but did not specify which ones.

Some players are returning to campus for voluntary workouts in the month of July. Those who tested positive "entered into protocol and are asked to self-isolate." They'll undergo "additional testing and screening before they may physically participate in team activities." They also must be cleared by a team physician.

The U said contact tracing was conducted and anyone who could have been exposed "was asked to quarantine."
