First child flu death of the winter reported in Minnesota

Death toll from flu is now 31 in the state

Minnesota's death toll from influenza this winter is now at 31, and for the first time, one of the reported deaths is a child.

The information comes from the Mnnesota Department of Health, which reported 95 flu deaths last year.

The totals from a year ago also included one child death.

The report also shows that more than 1,200 people in Minnesota have been hospitalized from the flu this season, with 187 receiving hospital care last week.

There were 113 reported outbreaks of influenza in state schools last week.

Four confirmed outbreaks of flu in Minnesota long-term care facilities continue were recorded last week for a total of 25 outbreaks so far this season.

The Health Department says influenza continues to be widespread across Minnesota.
