The Gopher football team fell out of the top ten in the rankings following their 38-17 loss to Wisconsin on Saturday.

Both the AP and coaches polls have the Gophers, now 10-2, as the number 15 team in the country.

The Gophers were number eight a week ago, the second time this season they cracked the top ten and their highest ranking since 1962.

With their win in the border battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe, Wisconsin rose three spots to number 10.

The Badgers play Ohio State on Saturday in the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis.

The Gophers, and their fans, must sit tight to await Sunday's bowl selections.

By falling in the rankings and ending their regular season, the Gophers find themselves effectively unable to improve upon their resume for bowl game organizers.

The loss to the Badgers all but wiped out any hopes for the Gophers' first Rose Bowl berth in nearly sixty years.

There are projections that have the Gophers playing on New Year's Day, either in the Outback Bowl in Tampa or the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

The Gophers' loss to Missouri in the 2015 Citrus Bowl came in the team's first January 1 appearance since the 1962 Rose Bowl.
