A Minneapolis man has died after being shot by police this afternoon.

According to the police department, officers received a 9-1-1 call just before 2pm about a suicidal man in a home on the 37-hundred block of Morgan Avenue North.

Police department spokesman John Elder says the man had a weapon when he came out of the house.

"He brandished it at the officers. Officers discharged a weapon and subsequently shot the subject. He was transported to North Memorial Medical Center," said Elder.

Elder says it was a traumatic incident for all who responded.

"Whether it be the individual who's having a mental crisis, the officers who are involved in the incident, or the officers and paramedics who are responding to the scene, this a difficult, difficult situation for everyone involved."

No names have been released and the BCA will investigate the case as is standard procedure. The officers involved are on standard administrative leave.
