No one was hurt in a spectacular school bus fire in the east metro that was captured on Twin Cities Traffic video cameras.

Administrators with the Richfield school district are praising the bus driver for taking quick action to ensure everyone got off the bus to safety

The state patrol says the bus driver was forced to pull over around 3:30 p.m. along northbound Interstate 494 near Carver Avenue in Maplewood.

The bus was carrying members of the Richfield school district's seventh-grade boy's basketball team.

Everyone, the players, coaches, and bus driver, managed to get out of the burning vehicle without injury.

In a public statement, Richfield school administrators gave credit to the bus driver.

The bus driver has been with the Richfield school district for 18 years.

School officials say the bus was four years old, and it's not known how the fire started.
