Deadly domestic disturbance

St Paul Police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance just after midnight Wednesday at an apartment on the 300 block of Pierce Street North.  When officers arrived, they found a disturbing scene - an unresponsive woman who was with a man and a young child.

"It's an emotional call," said police spokesperson Steve Linders. "When we have a child there, it adds an extra layer to everything."

Officers secured the scene,  taking the man into custody and making sure the child was safe.  They also called the St Paul Fire medics, who arrived a short time later and prounounced the woman dead without transporting her to the hospital.

The nature and cause of death has not yet been determined.

The man was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then to police headquarters to be interviewed. He was later booked into the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of murder.

The child, whose exact relationship to the adults has yet to be determined, was taken to another hospital for evaluation, and is expected to be okay.

It is the city's 5th homicide of 2020.
