A preliminary report shows the pilot of a North Memorial medical helicopter that crashed in Brainerd last month was a about to do a go-around because of foggy conditions.

The NTSB has released a preliminary report on the June 28th crash, which killed the pilot, 44-year old Tim McDonald, and flight nurse, 58-year old Deb Schott.

The flight paramedic survived the crash, and told investigators that just before the crash at Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport, McDonald remarked that conditions were foggy, and that they would need to go around.  The helicopter then spun to the right and hit the ground.

A funeral for McDonald was held Tuesday.
