Minneapolis police say two children fell from an apartment building in south Minneapolis Thursday afternoon.

One of the children died, and the other's condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.

It happened around 2:20 Thursday afternoon on the 2800 block of Pleasant Avenue South at Karmel Village apartments.

Sergeant Darcy Horn with Minneapolis Police says they are not yet sure of the circumstances of the fall.

"We're unsure at this time exactly where they fell from," Horn said. "A window or opening, somewhere from the building."

It's also not clear if the children fell from the third or fourth floor of the building.

A police spokesman says both children are under the age of four.
