The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating a fatal two-car crash involving a car that was fleeing police in north Minneapolis Wednesday evening.

The department says a man died after the crash near 36th and Aldrich Avenue North when his car was struck by 27-year-old Trevon McMorris of Brooklyn Park. McMorris is being booked in the county jail on probable cause murder.

It started before 6:30 p.m. when officers were responding to a possible drug deal in the mid-3300 block of Aldrich, according to a department spokesman.

One car sped off, nearly hitting an officer. When they caught up, one officer arrested McMorris, while the other rendered aid to the victim.

The unidentified victim was transported to North Memorial where he died a short time after the crash. MPD says the victim's car was in the intersection when McMorris's car came speeding through.

It's unclear if McMorris suffered any injuries.
