Pilot dead after plane crash in Northwestern Minnesota

A bystander pulled the pilot from the burning aircraft shortly after it crashed

The pilot of a small ultralight aircraft is dead after crashing at the Hawley airport in Northwestern Minnesota.  

Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting tells Fargo radio station KFGO that a bystander pulled the pilot from the burning aircraft, shortly after the plane crashed near the runway at Hawley Municipal Airport. 

The bystander suffered minor injuries, but the pilot was killed.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office and FAA are investigating. Hawley is about 20 miles east of Moorhead.
