YouTube Virtual Graduation Ceremony to Feature The Obamas, Lady Gaga and BTS

The Class of 2020 will be celebrated globally

Thanks to YouTube, the class of 2020 will not go without a graduation. The video sharing platform will air its original special, Dear Class of 2020 ceremony this coming June, with a commencement address delivered by President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.

The special will be particularly star-studded, with appearances from Lady Gaga, BTS and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Dear Class of 2020 launches on Saturday, June 6th and will span throughout the day as graduates get to watch speeches and musical performances on the stream.

At the start of the graduation stream, Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative will provide an hour of celebratory kick-off content. Headliners, President Obama and Michelle Obama will each deliver their own addresses to the class of 2020, plus they will also share a special message together directed to all of this year’s graduates who cannot take part in in-person graduation ceremonies.

Graduates will get to hear commencement speeches from Lady Gaga, BTS, former Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, former Secretary of States Condoleezza Rice, and Malala Yousafzai. Additionally BTS will be the headline performers during the special’s virtual grad night.

Grads and viewers alike will be able to watch the stream in its entirety here on the YouTube Originals Channel or on Youtube’s Learn@Home website.

Special appearances will also be made by Alicia Keys, Kelly Rowland, Kerry Washington, Chloe x Halle, Zendaya and many more.

Dear Class of 2020’s  full lineup schedule will appear on YouTube’s Learn@Home website starting on May 17th. YouTube will also provide an interactive component for graduates, where members of the class of 2020 can sign their name on a special Dear Class of 2020  Shout Out Board.

In order to properly share stories of students from around the world and feature members of the global class of 2020, YouTube as partnered with Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation, the Malala Fund, NBC’s Today and Ideas United.
