Severe weather possible in Minnesota

Potential for large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain

August 27, 2018 - 9:52 am

There is a threat of severe weather Monday in Minnesota.

"We've got a cold front heading into all this warm, muggy air and the battle of the air masses will be on!" WCCO Radio Meterologist Mike Lynch said from his broadcast location at the Minnesota State Fair.

Thunderstorms will develop along the front Monday afternoon and will move into the Twin Cities from the west "probably around 4 or 5 oclock and beyond. Some of those thunderstorms have the capability of producing large hail and damaging winds along with locally heavy rain" Lynch said.

Severe weather is always a concern, but especially with the thousands of fairgoers enjoying the fifth day of the Minnesota State Fair.

Fair officials say they are monitoring the weather conditions and will institute the proper safety plans if necessary.
