Teen pilot from Minnetonka unhurt in emergency landing

Plane went down in Lake Winona near Alexandria

July 28, 2018 - 8:27 am

No one was hurt when a single-engine plane had to make an emergency landing on Friday in a western Minnesota lake.

According to the Douglas County sheriff's department, 18-year-old Max Guderian of Minnetonka was perfoming "touch and goes" in and out of the Alexandria Airport when the Piper Archer lost power about 7 last night.

That forced him to bring the plane down in the southwest side of Lake Winona.

Guderian was able to get out of the plane and contact emergency crews.

He was rescued by a volunteer fire fighter, who picked the teen up in a raft and paddled safely to the lake's shore.

Federal investigators are trying to find out how the plane lost power.
