Two women and one man suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds early Friday morning in the 800 block of Portland Avenue south in downtown Minneapolis.

Police responded at 2:30 a.m. to a call of someone firing a gun in that neighborhood, about three blocks away from Hennepin County Medical Center.

"That area of downtown, we don't see very many issues at all," said the MPD's John Elder. "To see this level of violence is very unusual."

The  three victims were transported by a private vehicle to HCMC.

Two of the victims were reported in serious condition, but all are expected to survive.

It's not known what led to the incident.

Police are canvassing the neighborhood to find out if anyone saw the shooting when it happened.

"There were a lot of people in the area," said Elder, who's asking anyone who knows about the shooting to contact Minneapolis police or Crimestoppers.
