Maplewood police are investigating the death of a young boy who was run over by a family member's vehicle.

They were called to the 1900 block of Prosperity Road around 9:20 p.m. Sunday night regarding a child who was not breathing. It's then they learned that 19-month-old Andrew Her had been struck. "A couple family members were moving vehicles so that the person who had to work in the morning could get out and not have to get someone up to move her vehicle in the morning," Commander Dave Kvam said.

The family didn't know that  Andrew had gotten outside. "Unbeknownst to them, apparently Andrew had apparently been able to get out the door and was outside and was not seen by one of the two people moving their vehicles and unfortunately he was struck and killed," Kvam said.

The toddler was taken to Regions hospital where he was prounounced dead.  The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to conduct an autopsy.

The driver is cooperating and not believed to have been under the influence at the time."It just very much seems to be a horrible tragic accident." Kvam said

Kvam says it is also a timely reminder to keep an eye out for young children, especially as we head into the summer months. "We must always be cautious and watch what we are doing," Kwam said. "Kids are going to be kids whether they are 1 and a half or ten, they tend to do things you don't expect."
