Twin Cities homebuilders are asking lawmakers for help, as they deal with a shortage of workers and obstacles in building affordable housing

Hundreds met with legislators to share stories about the industry challenges.

Chris Galler is CEO of Minnesota Realtors

“We have a very low inventory in the marketplace. Builders can’t build them fast enough for the people who want them. And we have a lot of people who are stuck because they would like to sell their house, but they can’t find a house to get into.” Galler said

As far as building homes, he says some companies are looking for as many as 20 to 30 workers to keep up with their projects this construction season, but the interest among potential workers just is not there.
