This marks a return to the Twins after spending the last five years bouncing around different minor league and independent league teams. Thielbar last pitched in the majors in 2015 for the Twins. He appeared in six games that year, pitching five innings and giving up three runs.

Thielbar, already an underdog story, made his Major League debut with the Twins in 2013 after bouncing around the minors and a stint with the independent league St. Paul Saints. He has appeared in 109 big league games with 98.2 innings pitched and a career WHIP of 1.115.

Thielbar has been called up to replace Lamont Wade Jr on the active roster.
