At 2:45 PM on Wednesday, firefighters responded to an explosion at the metal processing plant near Saint Anthony Main in Minneapolis. Reports of an explosion with injuries were coming from the scene.  Firefighters say when they arrived they found two people injured.

“The employees were brought down to an area hospital for treatment for likely burn injuries and cuts and bruises,” said Bryan Tyner, Assistant Fire Chief of Administration.

Metal-Matic Inc. is located on 629 2nd St SE across the Mississippi River from downtown Minneapolis. Moments after the explosion the building filled with employees was evacuated and some employees were told to go home.

The condition of the two injured has not been released. However, Tyner said they suffered “significant injuries.”

Fire investigators determined the explosion occurred in a dust collector that collects metal shavings. The cause of this explosion is under investigation.
