Two killed in motorcycle-pickup truck crash

The victims are identified as a Blaine Police Officer and U of M professor

A Blaine Police officer and U of M professor have died in a motorcycle crash in Elk River.

According to a Blaine Police Department Facebook post, Officer Steve Nanney and his wife Susie Nanney, an associate professor at the U of M, were killed in a head-on crash with a pick-up truck. 

Crews responded Friday at 6 p.m. on Twin Lakes Road. The couple was on a motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. They were both 51 years old.

The pick-up truck was driven by a 17-year-old, who sustained minor injuries and was treated and released.

The cause is under investigation.

The department in the post says "their compassion and kindness were well known in our community."
