The Vikings and Seahawks in a dress rehearsal for the regular season

Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday night

Preseason game number three is usually as close to the real thing as NFL teams get before the matchups start to count.

Friday night at US Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis doesn't expect to be any different when the Vikings host the Seahawks.

New quarterback Kirk Cousins played one series in the first preseason game, a win at Denver. He got in for four series last week in a loss to Jacksonville.

He is expected to play at least the first half against the Seahawks, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday night.

"I feel like this is our best chance at a dress rehearsal," said Cousins about the third preseason game. "We'd really like to establish a rhythm, build some confidence, get some reps together, and just get a flow going. We need all that to be ready for week one."

The Vikings are also anxious to see the progress of running back Dalvin Cook.

He's coming off knee surgery that cut his rookie season short, and may play two series for his first in-game action of the year.

"It should be a heck of a test, Seattle is very good," said head coach Mike Zimmer, who also touted the addition of safety George Iloka.

"George is a very smart guy," said Zimmer, who coached Iloka when both were with Cincinnati. "Good tackler, going to be where he's supposed to be all the time. Pretty much knows a lot of the things we're doing."

The Vikings have split their first two preseason games, while the Seahawks are 0-2 in the games that don't count.

They lost their opener at home to the Colts, and fell to the Chargers last week in Los Angeles.

Seattle is looking to get back into the playoffs, and they'll be counting on big changes on defense, while looking for consistency from the offensive line to protect quarterback Russell Wilson.

The Vikings' preseason finale is Thursday at Tennessee.  The regular season opens September 9th at home against San Francisco.
