This Thanksgiving Day also marks the 55th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Kennedy was gunned down while riding in a motorcade in Dallas on November 22nd, 1963.

The news was broadcast to many in the Twin Cities on WCCO Radio. Legendary WCCO Radio newsman Dick Chapman took his microphone down to the streets of Downtown Minneapolis and talked to people on the street, many of them just getting the news about Kennedy's death.

Of interesting note, the big news in the Twin Cities during that time was the continuing trial of St. Paul attorney T. Eugene Thompson. He was standing trial for the murder of his wife, who was killed by a hit-man in their home in St. Paul's Highland Park. Thompson was later convicted. Upon hearing the news of the Kennedy assassination, the judge in the trial postponed proceedings until the following Monday.
