Much of the discussion around Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Professor Christine Blasey Ford, who’s accused him of sexual assault, has painted it as a binary - either she’s lying, or he is.

But based on his personal experience, WCCO listener Jim from Paynesville thinks there’s a scenario where both could be sharing honestly recollections.

“A lady came up to me at a grad party and just thanked me and thanked me for stopping something that had happened to her when me and another friend were there,” Jim told Roshini Rajkumar, “and I was kinda of [perplexed> trying to think ‘what are you talking about’?”

As it turns out, Jim didn’t have a strong memory of the incident.

“A friend got a little aggressive with her and I guess I stopped it, but my point on it is I don’t remember,” said Jim, “I was 17, 18, and was drinking involved? Oh yeah, it was.”

His friend didn’t recall the incident either.

“When I was asking him about it,” Jim told Roshini, “there was this blank look on his face. He didn’t remember.”

But for the woman involved, the memory was very clear.

“I remember being there. I don’t remember anything happening, said Jim, “but here she is like 7 years ago, which is what - 40 years later I suppose -  just thanking me and thanking me profoundly for stopping what she thought was going to happen.”

Jim’s point was that it’s possible that Judge Kavanaugh honestly doesn’t recall an incident that may have been supremely impactful in Professor Ford’s life

“I just wanted to put that out there,” Jim said, “that if he says he profoundly denies it, I can’t say that she is lying, but I can’t say he is either.”
