With the firing of Paul Molitor, Derek Falvey and Thad Levine will be looking for the next Twins manager, who will become the 14th in the franchise's history.

Falvey and Levine are part of the new generation of baseball executives that rely heavily on analytics, and it is all but certain the next Twins manager will have a good grasp of how analytical information is used in the modern game.

"We have new information every day," Falvey said. "There's new data coming in, whether it's TrackMan or Statcast or everything else that gets talked about every night. We all need to find ways to adapt and use that to the best of our abilities and making this team the best it can be. Whoever the manager (is) that comes in, certainly there are leadership qualities and key abilities in that role, but understanding and how to use information will be a big part of that too."

Levine said Molitor embraced the flow of data from the front office to the field, but he says it's time to find someone who can take it to the next level.

"We're aware that there's an ability that we have to try to put people in better positions to succeed moving forward," Levine said. "The newness of that implementation of some of those new resources, new information shouldn't be there anymore. I think we play a role in setting that up appropriately, but I think when we find the right partner at the helm, that will go a long way as well."

Falvey was asked if they'd consider someone who's never managed before.

"We don't have one specific defined type of candidate we need to find. We would be open to manager candidates with a number of different types of backgrounds."

Both men told reporters they do not have a candidate in mind. Falvey says they will begin the search immediately, but he did not say there is a timeframe for hiring a new manager, and that it'd likely take "multiple weeks."
