The Jimmy Butler saga has dominated the beginning of the 2018-19 Timberwolves season. So it’s not surprising that Wolves GM Scott Layden is perhaps a bit tired of answering that question.

“I think we’ve been dealing with this pretty much every day since the start of the year,” Layden told Paul and Jordana.

Layden clearly isn’t ready to get into the nature of any conversations the Wolves have had or may be having when it comes to trading Butler.

“I think that these sort of things stay pretty fluid and you work it at our process of making the team better,” said Layden, “A lot of what goes on too is very private. It would be illogical to discuss what you’re talking about with other teams.”

In the end, the Wolves GM thinks this is just an amplified version of what NBA executives are used to dealing with.

“And it’s no different than what we do year-in and year out,” Layden said, “We’re always looking to improve the team. And that’s not just one player, but it’s always looking to make improvements. Now, in the world of social media, sometimes things can get pretty heated. A lot of anonymous sources and what have you, and we deal with that.”

But the organization from the top-down seems determined not to let the off-court drama affect the on-court product.

“The one thing that I was proud of the other day was that when the team hit the court in San Antonio, I thought they played really together,” said Layden, “I was sitting behind the bench and I thought Coach Thibs did a good job of managing the team through this whole period. But everybody to a man, they were focused and they were ready to play and I thought we played a lot of good minutes against a tough San Antonio team.”
