The Timberwolves have reopened their downtown Minneapolis practice facility with pandemic safeguards in place.

Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas held a media briefing on Wednesday making the announcement.

"A big part of it is just to be there for our guys, to make sure and see where they're at after this layoff. There's an assessment period. But more than anything we just want to give them a little bit of joy. A little bit of normalcy. We want them to have fun back in the gym, but we want to do it in a safe and responsible manner."

Rosas says the return to workouts is voluntary. Safety measures include player temperature checks, contact tracing, and mask-wearing, except when on the court. During workouts, only one player and one coach will be allowed on the court at the same time, maintaining 12 feet of distance. Workouts will be limited to 45 minutes. Players will also receive custom to-go meals from KZ Provisioning lead by Chefs Gavin Kaysen and Andrew Zimmern. Players that stayed in Minneapolis have received daily meals from KZ Provisioning during the NBA hiatus.

Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Performance and Technology Dr. Robby Sikka says that this is an important time for their players as many have not had access to gyms or basketball activities since the pandemic started. He says that while the safety precautions are set, there is still a risk to opening the doors to the facility.

"I think when you acknowledge you don't know the answer to everything and you tell people that you absolutely don't know that everything is perfect you have to make sure that people understand that there are always going to be risks moving forward and that we have to make sure that we do the right thing based on what the state is saying, what the government is saying and based on what the league is saying."

The Timberwolves were 19-45 when the season was suspended on March 11th. They are scheduled to have 18 more games in the 2019-20 season if it resumes.
